The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the heart of Ontario's power system, ensuring there is enough power to meet the province's energy needs in real time while also planning and securing energy for the future. It does this by: balancing the supply of and demand for electricity in Ontario and directing its flow across the province's transmission lines; planning for the province's medium and long-term energy needs and securing clean sources of supply to meet those needs; overseeing the electricity wholesale market where the market price of electricity is set; and, fostering the development of a conservation culture in the province through programs such as Save on Energy. The IESO has a unique vantage point on the power system, ensuring reliability for the next five minutes all the way to the next 20 years.
With the upcoming retirement of the incumbent CEO, the Board of Directors of the IESO is seeking an accomplished executive to lead the organization. As a well-qualified candidate, you possess most if not all of the following attributes: broad and credible knowledge of the electricity sector; senior executive experience that includes reporting to or working closely with a Board of Directors; the ability to deal effectively with a strong single shareholder that is publicly held; the ability to lead transformational change within an organization; and, the ability to build and sustain highly effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
The combination of knowledge, experience and personal characteristics necessary to perform well in this role suggest that you currently have a substantial profile and reputation. You are known as an exceptional communicator, and as someone who makes and implements wise decisions with thoughtful sensitivity. Ideally, you bring knowledge of the unique complexities to be considered when leading an entity owned by a government.
