- Zypryme has launched a by-the-numbers report detailing where utilities are spending the bulk of the $8 billion U.S. Smart Grid Investment Grant dollars. The Department of Energy grant is the government’s single largest investment in grid modernization and is a part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
- As of May 14, 2013, about 64% or $5.1B of the $8B has been spent across 99 projects. Of that $5.1 billion-- 63% has gone to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), 24% to Distribution Automation (DA), 6% to Transmission Systems, and 7% to Customer Systems.
- A total of 12.3 million smart meters have been installed with the grant, in addition to 6,835 automated feeder switches, 729 phasor measurement units (PMUs), and 237,340 direct load control devices.
