Dive Insight:
The News & Observer reports five solar projects have been filed with North Carolina regulators, and Duke Energy's 80 MW proposal is the largest among them. According to the application, Duke is in discussions to sell the power through a negotiated power purchase agreement either to Duke North Carolina Power, where it would serve residents, or to ratepayers in deregulated states, or into the PJM Interconnection market.
Duke also said it will produce renewable energy certificates and anticipates participating in the North Carolina Renewable Energy Tracking System or in the tracking system of other states in the PJM territory.
News & Observer reports Pecan Solar and Johannes Gutenberg Solar have both filed proposals for 74.9 MW solar facilities close to the Virginia border; and Principal Solar is considering a 78.5 MW facility which would be located in Hope Mills, and another 72.9 MW plant near Fayetteville.
