Dive Insight:
The revolution sweeping the utility industry has reached Vermont: Green Mountain Power and NRG Energy announced a partnership to bring a suite of green and distributed energy products to the state's power customers. The offerings are familiar to those watching technology and behind-the-meter resources transform the industry: a multilevel home control offering for residential customers, community solar, electric vehicle infrastructure, and microgrid solutions.
The partnership will begin offering products early next year and the companies said the plan's key will be the development of an advanced distribution grid in Rutland that will "transform the distribution grid into a a market-based platform designed to create efficiencies and distributed energy solutions."
"This partnership is a really big deal for our customers and for Vermont," said GMP President and CEO Mary Powell. "Our partner NRG Energy is a cutting edge leader in green energy solutions ... Our customers consistently tell us they want tools to save money and move to renewable energy sources, and we can show the rest of the country how to get there. This is what our energy future looks like."
