Dive Insight:
Hawaii's efficiency program, serving Honolulu and Maui counties, has been a successful initiative to reduce energy consumption and was recently recognized as a "2016 Project of the Year" by Environmental Leader magazine.
"Hawaii is a national leader in its energy conservation and efficiency efforts," said Jim Moos, senior vice president for Leidos' Infrastructure, Environment and Security business. "Our energy efficiency experts implementing the Hawaii Energy program will continue to serve as a catalyst to facilitate renewable energy integration and support a 100 percent clean energy future."
If both extensions are authorized, Leidos could run the state's program through 2025.
Under the new, single-award, prime contract, Leidos will continue to oversee design and implementation of commercial and residential rebate offers, along with clean energy training and educational initiatives.
The company said efficiency will be essential to meeting the state's 100% renewable by 2045 goal. Leidos said efficiency programs have saved customers more than $1 billion since the company took over administering the offerings, and in the last program year residential an commercial customers notched an estimated $443 million in lifetime electric bill savings, or 1.5 billion kWh.
