Dive Brief:
- Smart meter manufacturer Sensus says it has acquired smart grid analytics startup Verdeeco. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- Verdeeco's software enables utilities to pull together data from "disparate sources," such as smart meters, SCADA systems and customer billing software, according to Sensus President Randy Bay.
- The data can then be analyzed through cloud applications on Verdeeco's Grid-as-a-Service platform. Verdeeco's apps include transformer utilization, load aggregation and alert and alarm management.
Dive Insight:
Although the money spent may be small, this is a big deal for Sensus, one of the world's largest smart meter manufacturers. Over half of Verdeeco's electric cooperative client base is already working with Sensus smart meters. The acquisition enables Sensus to offer a range of analytics applications to go with its hardware.
