The Organization of MISO States, Inc. delivers set of
Long-Range Transmission Planning Principles
Des Moines, IA – The Organization of MISO States (OMS) Board of Directors has approved a set of Long-Range Transmission Planning Principles that specify how the OMS will engage with MISO and stakeholders to undertake a coordinated transmission planning effort. The principles call for a process to develop a long-range vision for transmission planning that incorporates state perspectives on business case development and analysis of costs and benefits.
“The OMS Board made transmission planning a priority for 2019 recognizing the potential benefits from coordinated planning over a piecemeal approach and highlighting the important role for states to provide policy leadership in this area” explained OMS Board President Daniel Hall, Commissioner at the Missouri Public Service Commission.
Commissioner Matt Schuerger of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and OMS Vice President was designated as the Liaison to lead OMS on this priority in 2019. Commissioner Schuerger added “Considering the timeline associated with infrastructure planning and development, it’s important to get started now to ensure the grid we need in the future will be there to maintain reliability and support the evolving resource mix.”
The OMS Board of Directors approved the set of principles at its June 13th meeting.
The Organization of MISO States is a not-for-profit, self-governing organization of representatives from each regulatory body with retail jurisdiction over entities participating in MISO and serves as the regional state committee. The purpose of the OMS is to coordinate regulatory oversight among its members, to make recommendations to MISO, the MISO Board of Directors, the Commission, and other relevant government entities and state commissions as appropriate, and to intervene in proceedings before the Commission to express the positions of the OMS member agencies.
