In 2007, Middelfart municipality began a project to renew and improve its municipal building stock to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption. Following in its footsteps, Høje-Taastrup municipality began a similar process in 2008.
Due to operating budget constraints and a lack of internal skills and knowledge to carry out the extensive programs, both municipalities selected an EPC/ESCO model approach, partnering with Schneider Electric.
Although the Høje-Taastrup project is still in installation phase and is therefore too early for performance results, the Middelfart project, which has completed the installation phase, achieved its guaranteed energy and water consumption targets for the first year, providing over €500,000 in cost savings.
