The Kit Carson Electric Cooperative in New Mexico has broken ground for a 1.5 MW solar array on ranch land near Amalia in north-central New Mexico.
The project's 5,280 panels will cover 14 acres, an area equivalent to more than 15 football fields.
Kit Carson, based in Taos, has a 25-year purchase agreement with Standard Solar, which is developing the project and Washington Gas Energy Systems, which will operate it.
The project takes its name from the landowner, the Rio Costilla Cooperative Livestock Association.
