St. Cloud, Minn. (March 21, 2016) — Electrical Builders, Inc. (EBITM); the Nation’s premier specialty electrical bus duct services and welding contractor, officially launched their state-of-the-art mobile R3 Contingency Unit to the power generation industry last fall. Since then, it has been in high demand, supporting both planned and unplanned outages at nuclear and non-nuclear power plants across North America, delivering unprecedented service and dramatically shortened project schedules in the process.
The R3 Contingency Unit is an all-in-one, onsite service and installation vehicle equipped to handle everything needed to repair, refurbish, or completely replace electrical isophase, segregated or non-segregated bus duct systems.
The first project the R3 was called into action for was a transformer change-out. The client planned to self-perform a “like for like” exchange, but once underway, it was discovered that the fit-up required extensive modification to the existing bus duct system. The client contacted EBI for help. EBI’s ability to react quickly and completely reconfigure the conductor ends and sections of the bus duct while at the client’s location allowed the project to overcome this significant project change within the original schedule as opposed to waiting for replacement parts which would have taken two additional weeks just for the parts to arrive onsite.
Other projects the R3 has been involved with include bus duct replacement emergencies due to a transformer failure, which required sections of isophase to be replaced within a very short outage window and turnkey non-seg refurbishment projects where the client wanted to avoid the capital expense of installing a new non-seg system and rather chose to have their existing non-seg stripped down, reinsulated and re-silver plated, returning them to ‘like new’ condition with a fraction of the time and cost.
Jessica Netter, EBI President stated; “The onsite proximity of the R3 vehicle offers increased efficiency and unprecedented communication between field installers, machinist technicians, engineers, and plant personnel while allowing issues found ‘on discovery’ to be seamlessly added to the project scope and addressed in an efficient, safe and quality manner. The 24/7/365 availability of this mobile ‘micro factory’ has also proven to be invaluable for emergency projects that involve a transformer or bus duct failure, particularly since projects of this nature are largely based on discovery and the need for rapid and accurate repair and replacement parts is critical.”
Since its release last fall, the versatility and incomparable value delivered by the R3 from EBI has caused it to earn the reputation of ‘The Ultimate Contingency Plan’ for both planned and unplanned outages by project managers and industry experts alike.
“After seeing the R3, I was impressed. The trailer is well equipped and well organized. The unit is self-contained, self-powered and includes everything needed to begin work immediately upon arrival to the job site, including the ability to roll replacement bus duct sections. EBI’s R3 unit is raising the bar and setting the standard for the industry. No one else has a piece of equipment like this for working on isophase bus in the field that I am aware of. I believe the R3 will be positively viewed by everyone who sees it,” said Brent Lease, Electrical Engineer E&C, Xcel Energy.
EBI delivers their new R3 Contingency Unit with the same standards of quality and reliability that have awarded them their impeccable safety record for over 7 years. To learn more about the R3 Contingency Unit and its capabilities visit www.electricalbuilders.com/r3.
