The Roux Institute at Northeastern University proudly announces the launch of its ClimateTech Incubator, a cutting-edge initiative designed to accelerate the development of breakthrough technologies addressing the most pressing climate challenges. The incubator aims to transform Portland, Maine into a leading hub for climatetech innovation, bringing together entrepreneurs, researchers, and industry leaders to tackle issues related to sustainability, carbon reduction, renewable energy, and environmental resilience.
Supported by the Maine Governor’s Energy Office and other key partners, the incubator aims to nurture bold ideas, empower startups, and develop real-world solutions to the climate crisis. The incubator aims to attract, engage, and grow climatetech startups in Maine, spurring green job growth and expanding the clean energy economy.
“Today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for innovation and entrepreneurship here in Portland,” said Warren Adams, Director, ClimateTech Incubator, The Roux Institute. “We are deeply grateful to the Maine Governor’s Energy Office and our many partners whose support has made this vision a reality. The ClimateTech Incubator will be a crucial hub for nurturing groundbreaking solutions to combat climate change.”
Portland’s unique blend of academic, industry, and public collaboration makes it a fertile ground for innovation, positioning Maine as a leader in addressing environmental challenges. "Maine has a long history of entrepreneurship and innovation, and thanks to funding from Governor Mills' Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan, this new incubator program focused solely on clean tech will provide resources, support, and tools for the next generation of innovators to help Maine reach our clean energy goals," said Dan Burgess, Director of the Maine Governor’s Energy Office. “Transitioning to a cleaner energy future can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, stabilize energy costs, and protect our environment. Key partners like the Roux Institute will help keep our state on the cutting-edge of the clean energy transition and make Maine a place for continued investment."
By providing essential resources and fostering collaboration, the incubator aims to drive transformative innovation and create a lasting impact locally and globally. The ClimateTech Incubator launches with a cohort of 12 innovative startups including Amply Energy, BlueBel Energy Systems, BlueSonde Technologies, Edacious, Eli, Elipsa, Enodia, FlightSage, Headsail Ventures, RoamR, SeaDeep, and Survue. Each of the startups are working on bold solutions to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency, and address other urgent environmental challenges.
“The challenges of climate change are immense, but so are the opportunities,” said Rich Miner, Android Founder and ClimateTech Incubator’s Advisory Committee Member. “By providing the resources, networks, and guidance that start-ups need, the ClimateTech Incubator will help turn innovative ideas into impactful solutions that will drive both local and global change. Our goal is to be a catalyst for transformative innovation, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond the reaches of Portland.”
