HOUSTON, TX - Satoshi Energy announced the successful energization of a colocated high-performance computing data center at the Elbow Creek wind project in Howard County, Texas. The project represents a major step forward in Satoshi Energy’s mission to accelerate data center growth by colocating digital infrastructure with renewable power generation.
The facility, hosted at Clearway’s 122 MW Elbow Creek wind farm, was developed through a close collaboration between Satoshi Energy and Clearway. By colocating computing infrastructure onsite, the project enables direct access to low-cost electricity while reducing dependence on long-distance transmission, easing grid congestion, supporting operational efficiency, and enabling increased renewable production.
“This project delivers a compelling example of what’s possible when energy and compute are designed to work together from the start,” said Bob Bonner, VP of Development at Satoshi Energy. “We appreciated Clearway’s openness to innovative commercial models and their collaborative approach to solving infrastructure challenges. The result is a strategically colocated development that showcases how aligning flexible load with generation can unlock meaningful value for both power producers and data infrastructure companies.”
Unlike traditional power procurement models, Satoshi Energy’s approach centers on integrating compute loads with renewable assets at the source. At Elbow Creek, this means large-scale computing workloads are now directly coupled with existing wind infrastructure, transforming excess generation into high-utility computational work.
Additionally, the win-win extends beyond power producers and data centers, providing immediate economic development to Howard County through increased jobs and investment.
“Clearway is excited to power a data center at our Elbow Creek wind project using abundant generation without adding stress to the local grid,” said Valerie Wooley, Senior Vice President of Origination at Clearway. “This project underscores our commitment to developing innovative solutions to power data center loads by leveraging existing infrastructure. We are grateful to Satoshi Energy for their partnership and diligence on the project, which led to a successful outcome at Elbow Creek.”
With nearly 1 GW of data centers developed and an additional 4 GW under development, Satoshi Energy continues to lead the energy-first evolution of the data center industry. The firm’s powered land development and energy advisory expertise, coupled with its software platform, enable fast, scalable deployment of energy-integrated digital infrastructure.
The success at Elbow Creek sets the stage for future projects that align power and compute, while creating long-term value for both energy suppliers and data infrastructure providers. Projects like Elbow Creek also highlight how forward-thinking IPPs can enhance asset returns, meet ESG goals, and support grid modernization, while creating a foundation for long-term commercial resilience.
