- 200 MW Luna Valley generates enough electricity to power 80,000 homes every year
- Projects bring Clearway’s operating fleet to nearly 7 GW in California
Clearway Energy Group (“Clearway”) announced today two new energy projects to reach commercial operations in California. The Luna Valley Energy Center is a 200 MW solar facility that came online in Fresno County, along with the final 113.5 MW storage phase of the Daggett Energy Center in San Bernardino County.
“Luna Valley and Daggett Storage join Clearway’s growing fleet of reliable energy investments in California,” said John Woody, Senior Vice President of Development at Clearway. “With these two new sites, Clearway is proud to continue providing critical grid reliability during peak demand.”
Luna Valley will contribute over $26 million in taxes to support Fresno County schools, emergency services, and other public infrastructure. The site will generate enough low-cost, reliable electricity to power over 80,000 homes every year.
The final 113.5 MW energy storage phase of the Daggett Energy Center brings the facility’s full battery capacity to 394 MW, contributing to the facility’s $68 million in local taxes.
The projects are backed by long-term power purchase agreements with leading load-serving entities. A California utility contracted equal amounts of solar and storage from each project under 15-year agreements, creating a virtually paired hybrid structure. Additional solar capacity from Luna Valley is contracted under 20-year agreements with each of Southern California Edison Company and the Power & Water Resources Pooling Authority.
Over 550 union laborers contributed to the construction of Luna Valley and Daggett with more than 475,000 hours of injury-free labor. Blattner led the construction with labor partners that included LIUNA, IBEW, Carpenters Southwest Regional, IUOE, and Ironworkers.
Clearway and Blattner supported several local organizations during construction, including United Way, Barstow Humane Society, New Hope Village, and local food banks. The two projects will provide over $300,000 in community benefits during their operations, including through Clearway’s Adopt-a-School program.
