Alstom Grid has won a contract worth nearly $7 million to fully modernize three outdated Static VAr Compensators on the 170-mile Alaska Intertie transmission line owned by the Alaska Energy Authority.
The modernized units are scheduled to be operational by December 2013. They will enable the Alaska Intertie to maintain and enhance delivery for decades into the future, Alstom said.
Alstom also is being considered for a 30-year support agreement covering this new equipment.
