Ken Heitz, 65, a member of El Paso Electric's board since it emerged from bankruptcy in 1996, died in Los Angeles Monday of cancer.
An attorney in Los Angeles, Heitz "has been a key member of the Board since the Company's emergence from bankruptcy in 1996 and played a pivotal role in the Company's return to prosperity," Michael Parks, vice chairman of the EPE Board, and Eric Siegel, chairman of the executive committee, said in a statement.
In addition to graduating with honors from UCLA, Heitz was a basketball player on three NCAA championship teams with classmates Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor at the time), guard Lucius Allen, and forward Lynn Shackelford.
