Elster Group SE − a German firm that makes gas, electric and water meters and communications equipment and software for them − is for sale, according to people familiar with the matter.
CVC Capital Partners, which bought Elster in 2005 and took it public five years later, may see $2 billion for company.

Elster, based in Essen, Germany, employs more than 7,500 people and operates in more than 39 countries, according to its website. It had net income of just over $100 million last year on revenue of $1.87 billion.
