Edward Halpin is moving from STP Nuclear Operating Co. to become senior vice president and chief nuclear officer of Pacific Gas & Electric.
He has been president, CEO and chief nuclear officer at STP in Texas.
Halpin, who takes the new position next month, will be responsible for the operations of the 2,300 MW Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, where he will be based. He also will run the decommissioning of the Humboldt Bay Power Plant.
The job also makes him PG&E's lead contact with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Halpin has nearly three decades' experience in the nuclear industry.
Halpin is assuming the role opf nuclear chief role from John Conway, who also has been leading all energy procurement and hydro, fossil and renewables generation functions, PG&E said. Halpin will report to Conway when he joins the utility in early April.
