The Florida Public Service Commission has unanimously approved an agreement that will increase the power bills of Progress Energy Florida customers.
The change for an average customer likely will be $4.93 per 1,000 kWh per month, making it $128.12.
The PSC's staff calculated that the increase would have been more if the change did not include "a $288 million 'refund' of money customers were to pay to replace power from the crippled Crystal River nuclear plant, which has been offline since fall 2009 and might never return to service," the Tampa Bay Times reported.
