Today kW Engineering announced the hire of Russell (Rusty) Schmit who will take the helm as the new President and CEO as Jim Kelsey steps down from this role after co-founding kW 24 years ago. The leadership change was effective January 24.
Kelsey shares, “I’ve been fortunate for the opportunity to lead kW during its growth and development from a couple of guys in a converted warehouse, to a national footprint. I’m very proud of the work we’ve done, our history of innovation, contributions to the field, and our development of a supportive community of technical leaders. I’m thrilled to pass the baton to Rusty Schmit who can provide the guidance that the firm needs.” Kelsey will continue to work on special projects for kW and aid as a member of its board of directors.
Rusty Schmit brings experience leading and growing profitable businesses in the US and abroad. Most recently he served as the Chief Operating Officer of Sage Energy Consulting where he doubled top line revenue and tripled overall profit of the company. Previously he served as CEO for multiple firms, primarily in the solar power industry.
“I’m excited to join a firm with the solid reputation for quality work that kW enjoys,” says Schmit. “With that foundation in place, we’re looking forward to leveraging the culture and skills at kW to grow and expand our business. Energy has become a focal point for addressing climate change and ESG investment goals, and kW is incredibly well positioned to serve clients’ needs.”
