The Utility Broadband Alliance (UBBA), a collaboration of utilities and solution providers dedicated to championing private broadband networks for critical infrastructure industries, today announced the addition of new organizations to its growing roster of members. Array Digital Infrastructure, Connect 5G, Eversource Energy, Hawaiian Electric, PingThings, Sierra Wireless America – a Semtech company, Telsasoft and Teltech Group are joining the global movement to help utilities advance grid innovation and achieve operational excellence through high-speed communication.
Utilities in the modern energy environment are exploring ways to innovate, both operationally and in the services they provide to customers. From deploying cutting-edge applications using next-generation advanced metering infrastructure (AMI 2.0) to balancing load growth and advancing sustainability through distributed energy resources (DERs), the opportunities to create a more resilient, modern grid continue to expand. Private, high-speed communication networks hold the key to enabling these and many other advancements, providing a secure backbone that lays a foundation for grid modernization as they work to meet the challenges ahead.
“The work UBBA is doing to educate utility leaders about the opportunities to build a more resilient and intelligent grid is invaluable,” said John Nachilly, manager, network strategy & architecture, Eversource Energy. “By bringing together utilities, technology providers and ecosystem partners, UBBA fosters collaboration and knowledge sharing and promotes best practices that enable us to build secure networks that deliver next-generation services.”
AMI 2.0 has emerged as a promising frontier for helping manage today’s complex grid, allowing utilities to better oversee and orchestrate large loads, detect power quality issues, stabilize the grid and support a host of advanced capabilities. High-speed, private communication networks are essential to realizing the possibilities of this technology, as they are uniquely equipped to provide the level of security, reliability and speed these applications demand. UBBA continues to drive awareness around the benefits of next-generation AMI through education efforts aimed at highlighting its unique benefits for utilities.
“UBBA continues to grow as utilities and technology leaders recognize the critical role of communication networks in maximizing the value of utility innovation,” said Bobbi Harris, executive director of UBBA. “We are thrilled to welcome these new UBBA members from across the critical infrastructure ecosystem. Their expertise and leadership will help advance our shared mission to enable secure, scalable and future-ready communications infrastructure for utilities across the globe.”
UBBA will highlight AMI 2.0 and other grid innovation opportunities at its 2026 UBBA Summit & Plugfest in Fort Worth, Texas, Oct. 12-15, 2026. To learn more and register for the event, visit www.UBBAplugfest.org. To explore UBBA resources and inquire about membership, visit www.UBBA.com.
