California utilities will now create annual reports using 19 metrics that the state's Public Utilities Commission is requiring in a bid to assure that the companies' smart-grid investments are effective.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co., Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric will submit the yearly reports on how smart-grid deployment is going.
Among the data that the PUC is requiring are a count of smart-meter malfunctions that interrupt service to a customer and the number of smart meters that the companies have to replace before their expected lifetimes run out.
