Manufacturer Turboden American will supply enhanced geothermal developer Fervo Energy with 1.75 GW of its Organic Rankine cycle turbines over three years, according to a Tuesday release from the companies.
The companies said they expect the deal to lead to “strengthened capabilities” for the geothermal industry and expand the domestic supply chain for Turboden, which they think will “help shorten lead times for current and future customers and provide geothermal energy developers with a more efficient path to meeting rising power demand.”
Turboden is a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, which also produces natural gas turbines. In the release, Fervo co-founder and CEO Tim Latimer said that expanding the company’s work with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is key to scaling up geothermal generation.
“By combining Turboden’s proven [Organic Rankine cycle] technology with the global capabilities of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, we are strengthening the supply chain needed to build geothermal at scale,” Latimer said.
The 1.75 GW commitment is a step up from a previous agreement between the companies for Turboden to supply Fervo with turbines to support 150 MW of capacity for Fervo’s 500 MW enhanced geothermal project in Utah, Cape Station.
Fervo’s Cape Station plant has seen significant investment overall, including a $421 million in non-recourse debt financing from a syndicate of banks for the project’s first phase. On Thursday, Fervo announced an $800 million deal with Vallourec, a manufacturer of tubular solutions and pipelines, for the company to become Fervo’s “exclusive supplier of U.S.-manufactured tubular solutions and VAM connections … establishing a fully domestic supply chain for critical geothermal well infrastructure.”
A release from both companies said that the deal will provide cost certainty as Fervo continues to scale up its operations.
“The agreement comes as investment in next-generation geothermal has accelerated rapidly — increasing more than fivefold since 2022 according to the [International Energy Agency],” the release said. “Vallourec has seen the momentum directly: bookings for geothermal products increased more than threefold in 2025 compared to the prior two-year average.”
