Dive Brief:
- Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) is moving ahead with its proposed 1,000-MW natural gas-fired power plant in northern Maryland.
- The cooperative plans to bring the $675 million Wildcat Point plant online in 2017.
Dive Insight:
ODEC argues that it needs to build the plant to meet the growing needs of its member utilities. The plant could also improve reliability in Maryland, which imports about 40% of its power. Other power plants proposed in Maryland include Competitive Power Ventures's 725-MW natural gas-fired plant in Waldorf and Genesis Power’s proposed 735-MW gas-fired plant in Prince George’s County.
