Utilities and coordinating groups in the United States and Canada are planning 65,420 miles of new and upgraded transmission lines over the next eight years, according to compiled information.
So far, announced estimates suggest the projects could reach over $170 billion by 2020.
With new lines comes new supporting equipment, and Transmission and Distribution World reports that utilities could spend up to $40 billion on enhanced or new substations and transformers.
The information comes from The C Three Group's "North American Electric Transmission Project Database."
