According to Wind Energy Update, in 2011 an additional 31 percent of wind capacity was installed. The dramatic increase is attributed to the uncertainty surrounding the hotly debated production tax credit (PTC) extension.
The PTC is worth $0.022 per kWh for the first 10 years of project operation. This is a key factor driving the continued planning and commissioning of wind installations. It is believed that the PTC is also responsible for creating thousands of jobs.
