S&C Electric Co. and EPB installed the last of S&C's IntelliRupter PulseClosers to finish their Chattanooga, Tenn., smart-grid project. T devices are central components of EPB's self-healing grid, which is expected to reduce outage duration by 40 percent.
A Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory study found that the national cost of power interruptions for business and residential consumers is about $80 billion annually, S&C said.
