There is no easy sailing ahead for the nuclear-power industry, the incoming CEO of Westinghouse Electric Co. said during a panel discussion at the University of Pittsburgh.
Jim Ferland moves into the role of CEO and chairman on Sunday. Westinghouse is headquartered in Cranberry, Pa., near Pittsburgh.
Nuclear is doing better than in recent years, but what the industry is experiencing is "not quite the renaissance it was 18 months ago," Ferland said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Fukushima meltdown a year ago after a tsunami and low natural gas prices are making life harder for nuclear proponents and manufacturers, Ferland said.
