Dive Brief:
- Public Service Co. of New Mexico (PNM) is eyeing a different portfolio of generation resources over the next 20 years as it strives to replace 340 megawatts (MW) from the coal-fired San Juan Generating Station.
- The new mix proposed in its latest plan would include increasing the output of the Palo Verde nuclear plant and building a new natural gas-fired power plant. The new power-supply mix would include an extra 134 MW of nuclear, 177 MW of gas and 40 MW of solar to meet load through 2033, PNM said.
- The utility is planning public meetings as it refines its projections. A final plan will be submitted to regulators in June.
