General Electric co. has prevailed in one of three wind-turbine patent-infringement claims against Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., with a federal court jury in Dallas ordering MHI to pay GE about $169 million.
Tokyo-based MHI may appeal the verdict, according to the company.
A U.S. district court judge dismissed a second GE patent suit in February, according to reports.
A third infringement claim was returned to the U.S. International Trade Commission for reconsideration after the ITC ruled against GE in all three claims in February and GE appealed that action.
The case that GE won involves a particular technology that allows 2.4 MW wind turbines to connect to the local grids without damage when voltage fluctuates, even dropping to zero, Reuters reported.
