It’s crunch time for the electric power industry.
A surge in spending to meet the insatiable electricity demands of large-load data centers, as well as broader electrification, is fueling fierce competition for skilled labor, power generation equipment and grid components. On top of these material challenges, public anger over affordability and data centers is raising the political pressure on the sector, leading to top-down development pauses and new project vetting requirements at the local, state, regional and federal levels.
Adversity is forcing the industry to adapt and innovate with an explosion of experiments in technology, policy, markets, and project and grid management. Below are some of the most notable conferences and events of 2027, where energy professionals will gather to exchange ideas, demonstrate novel approaches and network for a new era of grid modernization.
